Adventure Pet Resort recently added a new trainer to their team and have been enjoying seeing the students learn and improve so much in the short time we’ve had our classes. Their motto is “a trained dog is a happy dog” and it is totally true. When dogs have mental and physically stimulation they are truly at their happiest. One of the students, Abbott, never wants to stop his training session, he is ready to do everything the trainer says. During the class, students will go out once at a time and work with the trainer and then after a little bit they’ll go back for a break. Abbott on the other hand never wants to take a break, he does anyways because he needs it, but he just waits for his turn again. Abbott is doing an intensive focus training where he will learn to focus on the human instead of distractions, like dogs or other people. He is a very high energy dog just over a year old, so the trainer is working with him on his leash pulling, interaction with other dogs, and his focus. A bonus to this training is that the trainer takes the dogs off site to work with them while having distractions like going to a park where there are other dogs and people. Another student, good ol’ Captain Hook has the same reasons for starting training. So far training sessions are just on Wednesday from 6/7 am-5/6 pm for $150 a session, but once there are more students it’ll be multiple classes during the week. We wanted to make improvements in the new year and were starting off strong! We hope to soon have a monthly calendar on our website to let you know when the slumber party will be for that month, when and what training classes we will have, and some other classes and fun activities we will have that month. This is it for now, until next time!
Preparing for the holidays, Adventure Pet Resort has seen a lot of wagging tails since last Friday. By now the days have ran together for us! Of course we saw our usuals; Miss Honey, Rosalita, Dooku, Bear, Betsy, Captain Hook, Ralph, Piper, Leonidas, Bolt, and a lot more. We even met some new furry friends! Bella, a very very cute three month old golden doodle came in for the first time Saturday for a temperament test. She of course passed, and then came in for a couple of hours the next day. In a couple of days she will be staying with us while her dad is on his trip. We see a true difference in first time boarding dogs when they first come in for daycare a couple of times before their reservation. They become comfortable with the park and with us as well. During this past week we have truly enjoyed seeing all of our furry friends and meeting some new ones as well.
In the parks, Ralph did his normal routine, napped on the bench until one of his best friends wanted to play. Usually it was Piper, Biscuit, or Pugsly that got Ralph off the bench. Sebastein too, but that was only so Ralph could bark at him. We don’t know why Ralph has this hatred for Sabastein, possibly because he’s cute and has been playing with Ralph’s girlfriend, Piper. Bolt found dogs to bark at, or found something interesting outside that he needed to bark at. He’s a funny guy, he’s a sweetheart, but boy does that bark go on forever! The Pack Leaders always get asked how we deal with the barking, jumping, hair, scratches; and we honestly have no idea. Selective hearing maybe? Tough skin and lint rollers. Most dogs bark for a reason and we’re here to fix whatever is wrong. On the other hand, like Bolt, some dogs just need their voice heard.
In the big dog park, everyone pretty much did their normal thing. Rosalita found a ball she needed to protect with all of her might, Miss Honey found her boyfriend Dooku and took their naps together. At the end of Hercules (Newfoundland) and Havocs (Golden Retriever) boarding they got a wonderful bath and Hercules came out looking like a fresh new bear and Havoc got a nice massage along with a little trimming. Bear liked to cause trouble, he’s our little trouble maker. He likes to distract the other dogs that have a toy he wants, after the other dog drops the toy Bear swoops in picks up the toy, and then blames it on someone else! He’s gotten Miss Honey in some arguments, usually it’s with Rosalita, and boy Miss Honey will win that fight! No one can win an argument with Miss Honey, not even the Pack Leaders! I don’t think we have talked about Captain Hook yet, he might need a whole blog to himself! Well Captain Hook, a very funny and sweet Boxer, has energy that could go on for miles. We know when he is coming in because his dad always backs in to the parking spot and Captain hops out of the back, the Pack Leaders yell out “Captains here” and we all come up to greet him. Lately his dad has been giving him a little talking to before opening the front doors and we just find it so funny. Once in the park Captain rules that space. He finds Miss Honey and starts going crazy and playing how we don’t want them to play, so eventually one of them takes a time out and after five minutes they’re together again. He can make friends with everyone, but the Pack Leaders don’t like when there is nipping, antagonizing, jumping on one another, or any other rough play. We will take the dog out that is doing it and put them in one of our suites for a time out just for five minutes so they will eventually realize “if I play this way, I get taken out and put in a room by myself”.
The Pack Leaders scurried around the facility taking care of all of the dogs that can’t be in the parks with everyone else. We are very busy this holiday season with all of our furry friends staying with us while their parents take a little vacation. On top of that we have our daycare open every day but Christmas day, along with grooming, so we are seeing a lot more than just the ones spending the weekend with us. Even though we are busy with everything our number one focus is the health and safety of our furry friends and we strive to be the best we can possibly be. We truly appreciate every single one of you and we are very lucky you trust us with your best friend! We hope to see all of you in the New Year and hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday!
The day started out slow and windy, but luckily not inside Adventure Pet Resort! At first it was just our boarding’s and Sammy our early morning cockapoo. When Pack Leaders came in for their shift they greeted all of the dogs and then started on their daily duties after they were covered in puppy kisses. After an hour our favorite lab, Rosalita stopped by, immediately followed by Miss Honey. Rosalita made sure to say hi to all of the Pack Leaders before walking down the hallway to see Havoc and Hercules. Once in the park she instantly went on the hunt for a ball. She found two believe it or not! Whenever someone would steal the ball from her she always knew where her spare was. Miss Honey came in hot! She knew she was about to have a good day, especially out of this wind. Miss Honey could hardly wait to walk in to the park, she was so excited she pranced down the hallway! In the park she found her favorite toy, it’s a larger ball with holes in it and a smaller ball inside of it. It rolls around perfectly and she just loves to slide into it so it rolls more. All of a sudden the Pack Leaders heard a faint barking coming from outside. We looked at one another and in sync said “Ralph”. Ralph burst in and ran straight to the gate, he jumped up on it while we signed him in. We carried him to the park and took off his snowman sweater since he plays a little rough and it doesn’t like to stay together. He found his bench and he laid there until his BFF Leonidas came in. Leo is a Shih Tzu who is still a puppy so he has energy that lasts for days. They rolled around and tousled till both of them just plopped to the floor for a nap.
It was a little later in the morning and Betsy came in! Miss Honey was very happy to see her! Betsy ran in and grabbed a rope toy, Miss Honey jumped right in and started playing tug-of-war. It was time for Rosalita to go home, she was very excited to see dad again. She said goodbye to the Pack Leaders and wagged on out. Later on another favorite came in, Lucy, a puppy bulldog. Now the fun really started! You would think after a while she would get winded and need a break, but boy you would be wrong! She could go for hours if we let her. We took her out after an hour so she could actually relax and catch her breath. The Pack Leader hung out with her for a little bit because she is a belly rub fanatic! She wants nothing more than friends and belly rubs. There was a new kid in town, well she lives here, new to us. Her name is Aspen and she is just the prettiest Australian Cattle dog you have ever seen, plus she’s a sweetheart! Betsy wasn’t a huge fan of her, but Aspen didn’t mind. She felt at home with everyone in the park. Before we knew it everyone was ready for another nap. They all found their spots in the park and got comfortable.
It was about time for most of our daycares to be picked up. First Betsy left followed by Miss Honey. Lucy went back in to the park and she found a new BFF. Aspen and her could not stop playing! Hercules and Havoc watched with their eyes half opened, they knew when to expel their energy and it’s when the Pack Leaders come in. Nothing will stop them from getting all of the attention possible from the Pack Leaders, not even Hercules outweighing the Pack Leaders. In the little dog park, Ralph came back in from his nap and immediately jumped up on the bench to then take another nap. You would think that dog is up all night and doesn’t get any sleep, but we all know he’s passed out from the time his mom goes to bed until his mom asks him if he’s ready for daycare. Soon enough it was time for the Pack Leaders to get back to their duties and take care of our boarding dogs, which means the adventure will continue again soon!
The day began with a flip of a switch and turn of a lock. Betsy came in bright and early today, her first time being this early. She pranced to the park and her eyes went wide when she saw all of the toys, all to her self! She played for a good hour before plopping to the floor for a break. While she played the Pack Leaders fed the boarding dogs and brought them in to the park once they finished. Ralph our daily daycare came running up to the front door, barking, letting us know he has arrived. His mom dressed him in a snowman sweater which he showed off to all of his friends in the park. After he rolled around with Pugsly, he jumped up on his bench and watched everyone play. Miss Honey, our big dog daily daycare came in and greeted us at the gate. She’s still practicing her training, so “her person” commanded her to sit and stay before we gave her the okay to come past the gate, and she did it! We praised her and she happily walked down the hallway to go the park. She greeted Betsy and within seconds started playing tug-of-war. Back in the small dog park, Piper came in and instantly played with Sebastein, the cutest corgi in the world. After she played with Sebastein and little Boots, she needed a break so she hopped up on the bench with Ralph. They cuddled up together and watched everyone else play; well mainly Sebastein played with everyone, or tries to get them to play with him. One of our many favorites came in, Rosalita, the sweetest black lab you will ever meet. Before coming in, Rosalita dug in their backyard and ended up with a dirty nose, so her mom wanted to show it off to us. Betsy and Miss Honey greeted Rosalita in the park and after a quick sniff of each other Rosalita went on the hunt for a tennis ball. They were sadly in the wash, so she politely asked the Pack Leader, Danielle, to find one. The Pack Leader came back successful and Rosalita was happy once again. She carried the ball around until the Pack Leader left the park and then she laid out by the back door and people watched, of course guarding her ball at all times. When the Pack Leaders started doing their normal routine of cleaning and taking care of tasks, the girls played in Park 2 and everyone in Park 1 took their mid-morning naps.
Once it hit noon the Pack Leaders came in to Park 1 with a box we thought was full of balls, but they’re actually ornaments. Everyone followed the Pack Leaders around, hoping they will just throw one of them, or we would actually manage to steal one. Sebastein tried the most to get one and Piper was right there with him. It took the Pack Leaders just about half an hour to secure the ornaments to the ceiling and now we just watch them, moving around with the blow of the air conditioner. Did the Pack Leaders do this on purpose so we would constantly be distracted and intrigued by the ornaments, was this their evil plan? Come in and guess how many ornaments are in the park, the winner will get a surprise gift!
Once finished with the decorating, Ralph went to a suite to eat lunch and to take his mid-day nap. Bear the funniest whoodle came in barking letting us know the fun has arrived. Once off leash in the park he chased whatever moved and played for hours. Sebastein was checking out today and he greeted his parents at the window, they heard him walking down the hallway by the jingle of the bells on his Christmas collar. Slowly more of our friends were going home. First to go was Pugsly, after he got his couple hours in the spa with Natalie. He greeted his parents with a winter themed bandana and a fresh smelling coat. Next was Rosalita, she pranced down the hallway and sat at the gate as commanded until it was opened. She wiggled over to her dad and they walked out together. Next was Bear he came trotting out to see his parents. It was just Betsy and Miss Honey until a boarding came in early. Our big guy Hercules, who is a New Foundland, and Havoc, the neediest golden retriever. They were so happy to see the Pack Leaders, once past the gate they didn’t acknowledge their parents again. They ran in to the park, well for Hercules stomped in to the park, and then played with Miss Honey and Betsy. A little while after that Betsy was next, we get to see her again tomorrow morning. Roxie came in and Park 2 was back to four dogs. She doesn’t really like to play, just walk around and look out the window at people. It was once nap time again so everyone laid around with their favorite toy next to them for when the need to chew comes on.
Once it was later in the day it was time for the Pack Leaders to continue their duties. It’ll be time for our friends at Adventure Pet Resort to head to their suites for the rest of the night, which means the adventure will continue again soon!
